Collabria is introducing a new tactile feature to enhance accessibility across all personal Mastercard credit card products within the Collabria suite: Touch Card by Mastercard™. The Touch Card feature is an innovative system of notches that allows cardholder with sight loss to distinguish between payment cards using uniquely shaped notches. The feature helps bring security and independence during the payment process by helping cardholders easily identify their cards with just a touch, supporting a world designed for all of us.
As payment cards increasingly adopt flat designs without tactile features for increased security, people with sight loss face difficulties engaging in everyday financial activities, including an estimated 1.5 million Canadians who live with sight loss according to the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind). Addressing this gap, Touch Card by Mastercard™ helps make everyday financial activities more inclusive, secure and seamless by allowing cardholders to easily distinguish and orient their card during a transaction through touch alone.
The Touch Card feature introduces an innovative system of notches:
The Touch Card feature has been vetted and endorsed by leading accessibility organizations, The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in the U.K. and VISIONS Services in the U.S. and is encouraged to be implemented by CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind).
Collabria will implement the Touch Card feature through a squared notch across all personal Mastercard credit cards, beginning with newly issued cards. This marks a meaningful step in strengthening accessible payment design and enhancing independence for cardholders who benefit from this tactile innovation.
Touch Card by Mastercard™ reflects a broader movement to create an inclusive economy that works for everyone, everywhere, innovating to welcome overlooked communities into the digital economy. By bringing this new standard to our Mastercard portfolio, Collabria continues to advance its accessibility offerings to support cardholders.
